Sgraffito is an ancient pottery decorating technique which involves applying "slip" (liquid clay) to the surface of a contrasting colored moist clay piece. Next, a design is etched through the slip to expose the clay color below. A transparent glaze applied to the surface allows these colors to show through after firing.
Sgraffito workshops and parties are offered for adults and children on occasional weekends and during school vacations. Slipped tiles are provided and participants are shown examples and illustrations for inspiration when they are decorating. No experince necessary! Is it fun to do? Absolutely!
